Surf's up at Collinwood!
Harry: I can't believe we drove around all day, and there's not a single job in this town. There is nothing, nada, zip! Lloyd: Yeah! Unless you wanna work forty hours a week. Harry: Maybe we should just check out Matt's YouTubes

assembly line
Here’s an excerpt from Subversive Galleries Website (featuring Detroit’s renown graffiti artist, Sinister)….
Sinister and SUBVERSIVE GALLERY is bringing back the beauty of the handmade..not the giant corporate buisness made flavor of the week junk you get everywhere else..Sinister is taking us all back in time, using silkscreen/screen printing techniques of the 60's and 70's, not the digitally reproduced garbage out there now being churned out by the millions by greedy executives and trend watchers..Sinister's screen prints are done by hand, not by a computer in China..
Clearly his work is NOT the stuff of Detroit’s assembly lines; so I whipped up this image in Photoshop for him using one of his paintings. Given our previous rapport, I hoped he would dig it.

Got this back.....Your the best Matt….just got off the phone with Sinister....he can't wait to see your next photoshopping art! I got a laugh out of that one..great job!.... Sinister is doing artwork for a huge fashion show here in Detroit on the 20th, so he's under the gun trying to get 15 huge paintings done for that!... Again, thanks for all the great comments and pics!

the envelope please

I revisited District 9 last night, this time with my girlfriend Rhio. (you can scroll back to my movie review posted Jan 26) I was a little uncertain if she, a lover of beauty, would handle the bleak visuals and repugnant looking aliens. Now Rhio is a big prawn lover but does prefer them a bit more succulent.
I am way impressed that D9 is even up for Best Picture. After all, Avatar had such box office success and stunning effects. Hurt Locker was quite gritty, though Rhio does somehow keep calling it Foot Locker. Blind Side & Sandra Bullock were endearing, and everyone loves a true story. And the others....well,I haven’t done all my homework, though I do know that Brad “wants him some Nazi scalps”.
Here’s the thing…. D9 is a brilliant movie that is such a departure from anything that went before. Sharlto Copley does an amazing acting job in a truly challenging role. Though the theme of racism is a vehicle for the mock documentary plot; as the film progresses it becomes so much more about relationships and loyalties and ultimately, doing the right thing. And the action kicks sci-fi ass.
I hope the Academy will be transcendent enough to award this film!
And yeah, Rhio actually did love the movie. She’s even dishing up a new prawn recipe for tonight’s dinner....with a side of cat food no doubt.

This watercolor is just part of what he sent!
Sinister is an artist for the masses.
He writes….I now have art in 39 US states, China, Germany, The UK, Ireland, Japan,Iceland, Brazil, Austrailia and France. I'd rather "get my art out there" and have people enjoy it..then sit on 100's of "masterpieces" that I want outrageous prices for in hopes that some rich corporate investor will come along and "discover" me.
He also sent a potentially valuable piece which I think is a riot; though by posting it, I may again be pushing the envelope of good taste. So send those small children out of the room and avert your eyes if necessary.

Here’s the low down on this First Pressing prototype!......
Thanks for all the great words Matt, glad you liked the art..I'll let Sinister know you dug it..I didn't even know he sent you that prototype..he usually keeps all his first run materials, I've been to his studio and have seen collectors practically begging to sell those pieces (not kidding!) he even told Eric Clapton's rep when he came on a buying trip that they were not for sale..(he also wanted 3 or 4 of Sinister's sketchbooks!) So you must have really struck a chord with him with your tribute picture!
Again, thanks for the purchase and stay in touch!

Gosh...maybe I should have Clapton's people contact my people? NOT.
And yes, I couldn’t resist buying another painting. This one is called Basking In The Glow 1953. It’s practically my vintage. I’ve got it hanging in my fallout shelter.
